Hi Mikey, we’re coming down from Ohio renting bass boats from Rolland Martin Marine. Fishing January 8th and 9th. I know the spawn will be on, can you point us to any direction on general areas to fish on the south end of lake? Watching your videos now!
from what i’ve heard north side of the lake seems to be better. i would hit up my boy joey berg or hunter weston – both great dudes and awesome guides down there. might want to do a day trip with them and then rent a boat. should be a lot of fish staging and in prespawn with some fish spawning but not a lot. chatterbait, fat ace tx rigged, trap, swimjig with an ez trailer.
Hey Mikey I’m coming across from Oklahoma mid March. Can you give me a general idea of what approach I should take? Love the videos, appreciate all the insight
should be fish doing just about everything. shad spawn, spawning, post spawn. fish in march and april tend to spawn a little deeper so look for isolated stalks, pads, and reed heads. white chatterbait and poppin frog on the shad spawn fish. usually a great time of year to fish as the weather is pretty stable.
We are retired and moving to Okeechobee. I am trying to get some info on what type gear to purchase(starting from scratch). I do have many years experience bass fishing but never in a lake like this. Also in the process of buying a new boat. Looking at a 19’5” Falcon F195 with a Merc 200. Would a boat of this size be considered safe on such a large leak. I understand wind and waves can get pretty bad. Thank you for any information you may be able to provide
that will be a solid boat – not too big but you’ll be able to handle most of the stuff out there. that’s pretty much when i had with a triton t19. when it comes to gear spend some money on reels, you need ones that can handle braid and the drag being locked down. shimano is my go to but you can use whatever you like they just need to be able to take a beating. mostly heavy to xtra heavy action rods will cover you but have a few medium heavies for trap fishing and topwater fishing. hope this helps. i’m actually looking at a falcon as well!
Hi looking for the best charter on headwaters
Check out Captain Shane Procell, Thadeus Reagan, or Tyler Woolcott
Mikey!!! Help Please, I have a HDS Live 12 and 9 with 3-n-1 transducer both on front and back of boat. My down scan imaging sucks balls (no disrespect to you). I wouldn’t consider myself a Lowrance Specialist by any means but I would consider myself pretty Proficient with my graphs and Lowrance products. I spend a ton of time on the water here in S.C. on my Skeeter by myself. I can barely even pick up bottom on my down imaging but the sidescan looks great. When I say I have tried everything I know….I mean it. I can’t figure it out to save my life. I love crankbait fishing this time of year as well and I would literally give one of my average size nuts to have a downscan image like yours. You know…. a good image with quality dots for good fish. It’s driving me crazy brother. If you could/would…… please reach out to me with assistance. I know your super busy probably but I would be honored and would love some help from you. I’ve contacted Lowrance Service and they really didn’t give me a warm-n-fuzzy with knowledge and seemed confused there self. Btw……I want to thank you for all the effort, time and Money you put into your videos and sharing the knowledge. Your content is greatly appreciated.
Chris
Chris – make sure your unit is set to 455khz and not 800khz. are both units updated? have you double checked which transducer the units are pulling data from? where do you have your transducer mounted? shoot me an email mike@mikeybalzzfishing.com
Dude – just came across your channel and site – really enjoying your videos man, and Bog is super cool 🙂
Hope you have a great season, we should be warming up in IL soon finally so I’ll be getting out. I’m sick of watching everyone ELSE catch all the fish!
