It was an epic day on the lake! I caught my Lake Guntersville PB fish using a fishing lure I made for Gambler Lures for swimbait fishing. Alabama rigs are great lures this time of year for cold water and I stumbled on a pattern for fishing grass on shallow submerged points with small swimbaits. The bass were were keyed on shad and I would use the swimbaits to mimic bait balls in creeks and at the mouths of creeks. The way I fish an umbrella rig is really more like a spinnerbait. I use a shorter fishing rod and a smaller rig so that I can cast it more accurately and fish it all day with less fatigue and more efficiency. I’m so stoked I finally caught a GIANT bass out on Lake Guntersville – definitely my PB and it made it especially cool to do it with a homemade jig.

Lojo Fishing called to fish with one goal – catching his first smallmouth bass. The challenge was on and it turned into quite an adventure. First all we could get to bite were small largemouth bass. I got the most insane sight fishing bite fishing for bass in a tiny clear creek on Lake Lanier. It was unbelievable!!! Reeling in a Nichols Ned Rig Jig with a Gambler Ace I had two bass follow the bait all the way to the boat. I flipped the bait back out while looking at the fish and it bit!!! Absolutely insane!!! Probably the best sight fishing bites I have ever had. We caught some other spotted bass on a range of techniques from throwing Sebile swimbaits to casting micro swimbaits on ball jig heads. Lake Lanier is super clear and the creeks were no exceptions so using light line and more finesse fishing techniques was key.

I have goosebumps from a totally unscheduled fishing stop on my road trip north at Kentucky Lake. Bank fishing for bass I managed to catch my PB spotted bass fishing a drop shot rig in a small bay right next to the dam. Headed on a road trip to my brother’s wedding and some epic smallmouth bass fishing in Michigan I just randomly stopped and got a hotel for the night down the road from Kentucky Lake, grabbed a fishing liscense, and went out OG style trying to catch my first Kentucky Lake bass – I would’ve never known it would be my PB!!! This is just the beginning of a road trip series chronicling my trip to search for my PB smallmouth bass with my buddy Benjamin Nowak. So stay tuned!

We finally broke dirty 30 in the new boat!!! And it’s bizarre how bass eat this bait but we did it with the Mag Ned Rig. Part 2 of an epic post spawn day on the lake fishing for bass, we rolled up on a shell bar early afternoon , wind started to blow, and the fish began to bite. Probably had 32lbs including a MASSIVE 9lbs+ caught on the bizarre but giant slaying Mag Ned Rig. They just eat that bait! Also caught some studs on the Neko Rig which is perfect for sluggish fish looking for a big meal with finesse during the late spring post spawn time of year!

Real fishing at it’s finest crushing post spawn bass out fishing a local lake! When the pieces come together during the post spawn bass fishing can be epic! They did today not getting a lot of bites but getting the right fish to eat the crankbait and, as you’ll see in part 2, the mag ned rig. All culminating in a 30+lbs megabag. The post spawn usually crushes anglers but it’s one of those bizarre times of year that can group fish up who really need to eat following the spawning period. Focusing on the 2 ends of the spectrum – reaction strike type baits and super slow dragging lures seems to be key this time of year in coaxing big bass to commit. Make sure to tune in for part 2 coming next week when we break a dirty 30 in the new boat for the first time!!!!!

Icicles in Florida? Winter fishing is the ideal time to go fishing for bass and target huge fish with crankbaits! I always try to mix in fishing tips and techniques and this is a big one when it comes to crankbaits and fishing plugs – it’s all about wobble, vibration, body shape, and in general – water displacement. I finally picked up my new bass boat and I can’t wait to get it fishing! We had the maiden voyage and got to see underwater bass on our trip to pick up the boat in North Central Florida. It’s all getting real! We passed through Silver Springs to pick it up and got some see some epic fish underwater on glass bottomed boats! So the new boat is home and the next step is to get her rigged out to be a fishing machine! Stay tuned! You won’t see her in the vids right away but I’ll keep you updated as the process unfolds and no doubt we’ll be shooting a boat walk thru vid once she’s all ready for the water!
