There is no doubt in my mind the Shimano Curado 200e is and was the best fishing reel ever made. These days I pair it with my heavy cover fishing rods for frog fishing, punching, flipping and anything that involves braided fishing line. These are basically antique fishing reels but they’ve held up to catching fish so awesomely well that I just can’t see myself replacing them. They do need a little TLC from time to time when I’m not on the water and I think a mouse got to my reel handle on my punching rod setup so I needed to replace it. I opted for a Hawg Tech handle over a standard Shimano replacement because my buddy makes them, they look pretty epic (matching my fishing rod), and they last longer than the one’s Shimano sells after market. We do a quick reel handle repair in this video and you can see how simple it is to swap out any standard reel handle with a new one as well as take a look at a giant fish catch using my technique specific cranking handle.

The fishing road trip is wrapped up and now it’s time to break down the patterns, baits, as well as the rod and reel arsenal we used to catch smallmouth bass up in Michigan! The pattern highlights really focused on 2 different baits, a jerkbait and a Ned Rig. I caught my PB smallie on the jerkbait right off the bait but when fishing Lake Huron got super close to beating it fishing the Ned Rig. These are a different class of smallmouth bass and triggering bigger bites was key in making this an epic trip. The break down and recap on techniques and everything we did and figured out when it came to fishing these giant spring smallmouth bass is layed out in the video. Fishing for bass using the technique of punching thick grass is an epic technique. High intensity one on one fishing combat! Probably one of my favorite fishing patterns, using heavy weights, big flipping stick fishing rods, and heavy braid makes for one of the best bites on Lake Okeechobee any time of the year. Catching well over 20lbs on a day that was truelly a grind!
