If there’s 1 thing mistake that I see anglers make that can completely change their Ned Rig game its shaking the lure vs dragging the soft plastic worm. In this video we discuss soft plastic worm retrieves spring through summer and what works to catch bass.
In this video I go solo winter truck camping to go fishing for bass with Bog the dog. We sleep in the truck with a few mods to try to stay warm and figure out some lures and patterns that catch bass on this new lake.

Swimsuit girl, she hates fishing. She comes fishing on the boat with me but never actually casts a fishing rod or catches fish so we are going to change that. I took swimsuit girl fishing to catch a variety of species of fish that all live in the river. I teach her some beginner fishing tips on setting the hook, landing fish, as well as how to fish a small swimbait lure for bass, catfish, walleye, and other fish.
There are a few summer fishing lures that never fail to catch bass. Baits and techniques that I have a ton of confidence in to trigger fish to bite in the summer heat. Most of theses lures rely on getting bass to react to the lure such as crankbaits and swimbaits – their action never fail to catch bass this time of year that are active and pursuing forage like bluegills and shad. There’s also a couple lesser known baits such as the scrounger trailer combination that has become a staple technique for ledge fishing and structure fishing. And although I love fishing moving lures this time of year to catch bass you always need to have some finesse techniques for those fish that are failing to respond to your reaction lures. It seems fish never fail to bite a ned rig or a drop shot with a small stick style bait especially a wacky rigged drop shot!
There is 1 thing that is a huge fishing cheat you never want to forget when trying to catch summer bass – either fish them super fast and try to trigger them with crankbaits, big swimbaits, spoons, and reaction style fishing lures; or fish them super slow with soft plastic Texas Rigged Worms, Ned Rigs, drop shot rigs, Neko Rigs, and all the finesse techniques you can think off. The fish seem to either be in one mood or the other when fishing in summer and that means the techniques you use to catch bass need to mimic that mood. Warmer water temps and clearer water leads to more stable fishing so once you figure out a fishing pattern you can stick with it but when it comes to lakes with a lot of fishing pressure or boat traffic you may have to adapt your approach and cheat a little with more finesse style lures or highly reaction oriented baits.
It doesn’t matter where you’re fishing, googans exist everywhere. A reminder, what is a real googan – someone that doesn’t want to put the work in to find fish. So I’m out ledge fishing and I understand a lot of fishing holes are community spots but this guy pulled his boat up right next to mine and we even crossed fishing lines!!?! I don’t own the lake but I don’t think I would’ve done this to someone?
On a more fun subject we had a blast summer fishing using our electronics and noticing some bait fish to locate and dial in the bass. One thing I recommend is trying to fish during low light periods such as morning or sunset – it truly changes the way the fish behave and you will catch more fish.

Fishing for bass is never the same even if you go to the same lake. I’ve found on this new adventure that these fish can deceive you a bit especially since I don’t have a history of patterns, techniques, and tunnel vision on what parts of the lake are best at certain times. I’m starting to figure it out though and one thing I’ve found is during the summer these bass will deceive you and mix with other fish species in large schools giving the impression that what you’re seeing on your Lowrance isn’t bass….but it actually is, just not totally bass.
There is seriously 1 bait that can catch fish no matter if you’re fishing a lake, bank fishing, even spillway fishing. It is probably one of the most versatile soft plastic lures ever created for fishing and this weeks video theme is back to basics so we are going to break down 4 techniques you can use with a Senko style fishing lures. If I were to have one soft plastic worm in my boat for late winter and early spring fishing this would be it. I think as anglers sometimes we forget how versatile it is and all the rigging and technique options you have to fish them. In this video we go through the Texas Rig, wacky rig, ned rig, and weightless Texas Rig.
