Donny Bass and I finished 2nd in the Roland Marin Marine Series Tournament on Lake Okeechobee doing what we love to do – punching heavy cover for big fish! Full day video and weigh in, all the deets and all the fish using big tungsten weights to target big bass on the bass capitol of the world Lake Okeechobee.

One of the best tournaments in Florida paying over $5k for the win. We managed 2nd place thanks to some awesome punching and flipping fish staked up in the mats. Go to baits was a Gambler Crawdaddy and Why Not (links below), heavy braided line, and heavy action fishing rods.

Conditions: sunny with partial clouds, highs in the 80’s and fish staging up to spawn.

The rawest fishing I’ve had in a long time – smashing over 31lbs of Florida bass on 2 spots in one day. Totally challenging day with not a ton of bites but when i found them they were huge fish and totally aggressive once I figured out the little nuance. That nuance was ripping the bait of fishing lure off the top of underwater structures and drawing reaction bites from suspended fish that no one else was targeting.

Weather was partly to mostly cloudy, even turning into some rain at the end of the day when I caught that final 7+lbs fish.

Magical day of fishing, the kind you dream of and it has everything to do with putting time in on the water and paying attention to details of your bites and retrieves.

Spent time fishing with Lake Okeechobee Hammer Matt Wieteha teaching him a bit about what I’ve learned on fishing for bass off the bank. A hot, flat summer day in Central Florida where the bite was tough but panned out into a 20+lbs limit of bass and a pretty stellar day hanging out with good people.

Techniques used were crankbaits, Neko Rigs, Texas Rigged plastics, and drop shot. Big fish tended to come on the wacky rig setup and bigger crankbaits.

This is the best way to get great audio from your action camera and the best shot when fishing in POV or first person perspective situations like fishing. This rig is comfortable, adaptable, portable and light weight allowing you to shoot for extended periods of time without changing batteries.

I film video for when fishing for bass every time I’m on the water and it took some time to figure out a camera rig that offered the shot and audio I was looking for. This is what I came up with, hope its something that can work for you when fishing from the bank, from the boat, or even when shooting general videos highlighting your fishing exploits.

Not going to lie, was holding this video back for awhile as I think it’ll really change the way people shoot video when out fishing but as usual I’m always down with sharing what I learn to help other anglers get better video catching bass!!!

Me and my boy Marc punched mats for bass. We found them super shalllow and flipped heavy cover with Gambler Craw Daddys. Focused on matted hydrilla with clearer water inside from the main lake. Seemed like fish were stacked up on a 50-60 yard stretch. Got a ton of bites and caught one 5lbs thunker.

I love punching, heavy cover and fishing Lake Okeechobee is such a great oppurtunity flip for bass and fish for bass anywhere that i turning the cameras on was not an opion

I caught a 10lbs 14oz bass on a cranbait fishing in central Florida waiting for a friend. A pre spawn fish out in deeper water I fished the crank in a unique technique called longlining. Want to step up the quality and content of your fishing videos – start shooting stock shots when you’re on the water fishing to tell viewers more about what you’re doing, how you’re doing it, why you’re doing, and just flat out make for a better story.

Always run that camera even when you don’t think it’s worth it – trust me it’s worth it and will come in handy down the road when editing!
