In this video I show you how to fish a jig for a bass and rig up a cheat rig – a wacky rigged football jig for fishing cover and structure. Most anglers use a creature bait, a chunk, or a craw lure on the backs of their jigs so rigging something different is a way to trigger more bass to eat your lure. The wacky jig is a lure that is perfect for clear water and catching fish accustomed to seeing standard jig fishing presentations.

Swimsuit girl, she hates fishing. She comes fishing on the boat with me but never actually casts a fishing rod or catches fish so we are going to change that. I took swimsuit girl fishing to catch a variety of species of fish that all live in the river. I teach her some beginner fishing tips on setting the hook, landing fish, as well as how to fish a small swimbait lure for bass, catfish, walleye, and other fish.
There are a few summer fishing lures that never fail to catch bass. Baits and techniques that I have a ton of confidence in to trigger fish to bite in the summer heat. Most of theses lures rely on getting bass to react to the lure such as crankbaits and swimbaits – their action never fail to catch bass this time of year that are active and pursuing forage like bluegills and shad. There’s also a couple lesser known baits such as the scrounger trailer combination that has become a staple technique for ledge fishing and structure fishing. And although I love fishing moving lures this time of year to catch bass you always need to have some finesse techniques for those fish that are failing to respond to your reaction lures. It seems fish never fail to bite a ned rig or a drop shot with a small stick style bait especially a wacky rigged drop shot!
It doesn’t matter where you’re fishing, googans exist everywhere. A reminder, what is a real googan – someone that doesn’t want to put the work in to find fish. So I’m out ledge fishing and I understand a lot of fishing holes are community spots but this guy pulled his boat up right next to mine and we even crossed fishing lines!!?! I don’t own the lake but I don’t think I would’ve done this to someone?
On a more fun subject we had a blast summer fishing using our electronics and noticing some bait fish to locate and dial in the bass. One thing I recommend is trying to fish during low light periods such as morning or sunset – it truly changes the way the fish behave and you will catch more fish.
