Want to catch bass in the summer heat!!?!? In this vid we reveal summer fishing tips on Lake Guntersville for catching big bass in clear water out deep ledge fishing. We walk through step by step with tips and techniques as well of the ledge fishing process – how to find fish out deep using your contour map and sonar, what fish look like on the Lowrance HDS LIVE, and various techniques for catching bass in deeper clear water. Two main lures really showed off – a wobble head jig and a mag ned rig jig with a large stick bait. I’m all about revealing the real fishing process and showing what the pros don’t always want you to know and that’s what we do right here in regards to summer fishing and specifically ledge fishing for deep water big bass.

Last year around this time we went flipping and punching on Lake Rousseau with Glenn Browne to shoot an OG challenge fishing video. Of course the master of flipping beat me and Chris from 44 Tackle! So on my way back home I stopped at the bait shop and headed out to Lake Rousseau to pay homage to the master of punching who is sadly no longer with us with a good buddy and mentor of mine Sean Blucher. Sean is a big fish master himself and loves to flip and punch heavy cover as much as I do for bass! Sadly what we found is the FWC had done some environmental herbicide treatments and destroyed the bass ecosystem just as it was beginning to thrive.

There are a few fishing lures that I have supreme confidence in when fishing for 10 pound plus bass on some of the trophy fishing lakes in Florida. They are big reaction style baits – a magnum crankbait, a magnum spoon, and a custom swimbait. I’ve had more success catching monster bass on these baits than almost any other reaction style fishing lures. I like tournament fishing but when you see a bass fishing tournament devastate and destroy a lake like this it’s a trigger. Taking care of fish is very important in our sport because it means we can continue to enjoy the lakes and places we love to spend time so when you see fish wasting away at a boat ramp like this I’m disgusted. On a happier note I caught over 30lbs of bass – including 3 7 pounders on consective casts with a giant crankbait! Don’t miss the double up giant that comes off right next to the boat – probably would’ve been my PB but who knows. Key to catching fish was finding isolated structure using my C Map and scanning it with my HDS Live to look for just a couple bass and then fishing for micro schools of 2-4 fish. It was all a reaction bite – tossing a giant crankbait like the Strike King 10xd on 12lbs flourocarbon and grinding on the bottom!

Fishing fights happen all the time when there are GOOGANS everywhere on the lake and that’s exactly what’s going down right here. This is one of the most intense ways to cheat bass in to biting during high pressure situations and it’s flat out the funnest fishing technique I have ever learned. When you have semi clear water and heavy vegetation or cover using a heavy tungsten weight, a fairly heavy action fishing rod, and an attitude to grind whatever lake you might be on! There’s nothing more raw that targeting these type of fish when the situation is right. Heavy cover provides bass a hangout where they can live in low light water conditions and ambush whatever they want to eat as it passes by. Vegetation like hyacinth, penny wort, and water lettuce are some of the key types of vegetation we looks for as well a underwater hydrilla or milfoil. All provide those canopy characteristics that are perfectly suited for using this fishing technique. Braided fishing line, heavy guage hooks, and a solid snell knot. The fish bite is usually a slight tap or dead weight and sometimes you might be tricked thinking you are hung up on vegetation especially during fall and winter seasons when activity levels can be lower. Isolated targets are the best for bigger fish but that can be a challenge – it can mean targeting less fish more spread out.

We finally broke dirty 30 in the new boat!!! And it’s bizarre how bass eat this bait but we did it with the Mag Ned Rig. Part 2 of an epic post spawn day on the lake fishing for bass, we rolled up on a shell bar early afternoon , wind started to blow, and the fish began to bite. Probably had 32lbs including a MASSIVE 9lbs+ caught on the bizarre but giant slaying Mag Ned Rig. They just eat that bait! Also caught some studs on the Neko Rig which is perfect for sluggish fish looking for a big meal with finesse during the late spring post spawn time of year!

Real fishing at it’s finest crushing post spawn bass out fishing a local lake! When the pieces come together during the post spawn bass fishing can be epic! They did today not getting a lot of bites but getting the right fish to eat the crankbait and, as you’ll see in part 2, the mag ned rig. All culminating in a 30+lbs megabag. The post spawn usually crushes anglers but it’s one of those bizarre times of year that can group fish up who really need to eat following the spawning period. Focusing on the 2 ends of the spectrum – reaction strike type baits and super slow dragging lures seems to be key this time of year in coaxing big bass to commit. Finnaly fishing for bass and popping the cherry on the new bass boat rig! Such a huge day and the fishing cooperated. This time of year fishing can be a little spotty but swing head jigs, stick baits, jigs and a little bit of neko rigging did the trick getting bites. Florida fishing is about to get super good – epic good – as these fish settle in to pre summer patterns. So stoked and thankful to have this rig and pop the cherry on one of my favorite lakes with some solid bass!
