If there is one fishing technique I love it’s flipping and punching heavy cover for bass. And right now on Lake Guntersville the mats are stacked with bass to target with heavy Hawg Tech tungsten weights, a heavy action fishing rod, and big braid. You can do it too by targeting matted vegetation on your home lake or body of water, all you need to do is find vegetation that makes a canopy for bass to live under. We go through how to catch fish in heavy cover late summer though fall and you’re going to love they way they bite !!!
The rain took a break and we went finesse micro swimbait fishing on Lake Lanier with Tim from Hammond’s Fishing Center! Tim taught me about “blow thrus” and other lingo anglers use to describe various cover and structure on the lake. The water is rather clear and the main forage is blueback herring. Tim explained that the herring will eat the eggs of the bass and using that micro swimbait like a Little EZ on a ball head and slow rolling it on the bottom mimics the bluebacks. This finesse rig is pretty cool and I think it would be perfect for targeting bass on Smith Lake as well as rocky areas during summer and winter.
My buddy Cobi let me check out his super expensive Roman Made Swimbait!!! Insane fishing lure! We went to Lake Guntersville to bass fish and Cobi caught some insane glide bait bass fishing super shallow water. It started as a Ned Rig only fishing trip but as the bass moved up and became more active Cobi’s commitment to the Glide Bait paid off!! These fish are so pressured so seeing something completely custom like a homemade swimbait they get triggered!!!
Ever since I won this bass boat I have been trying to make mods and upgrades to tweak this rig into the perfect fishing machine. One thing I’ve been dreaming of is having double graphs at the dash so we went with the leader Bass Boat Technologies Dual Graph Mount and Stacker Mount. I noticed however there is not an install video on YouTube that’s a true tutorial on how to install the Bass Boat Technologies mount. So in this walk thru my not so mechanically inclined self goes through the tools, steps and process I used for the install of both the bow and dash mount.
If you’re interested in learning more about the mounts I installed you can find them right here https://www.bassboattech.com/

Hair jig fishing for bass is an art form. It’s a fishing technique you need to take time to learn the details of because you’re basically fishing the lure in the ether column of the water – the middle of nowhere. Hair jigs are perfect for targeting finicky schools of fish as well as suspended bass that are elevated in the lake. It mimics shad and other bait fish that are known to dart and dive in the water. 3 keys you need to pay attention to when hair jig fishing are the action of fishing rod, fishing line size, and what depth the fish are focused in . Watch the video for all the details and hopefully to became a better hair jig angler!!!!

Fishing for bass is all about DIY details especially during the early spring when fishing can be a tough game to win. Here are some tips on crankbaits I figured out and some of them are so DIY that all you need is a permanent marker. Being successful with certain fishing techniques usually rely on subtle details, so give these things a try the next time you head to the lake.

You don’t expect to meet a celebrity when you go TROPHY bass fishing. BUT WE DID!!!! Guess who? And then I catch my biggest bass of 2019 – a PB throwing one of my favorite fishing rigs for bass, a Mag Ned Rig! We went to fish a private lake with my friend Charlie and I had one goal, catch a PB bass. After we met Lunker Louie – a master angler that catches giant bass on lakes like Istapoga. He’s a celebrity in bass fishing who has a ton of Trophy Catch Florida bass as well as appeared on shows like a Fishing Story.
2 techniques that we used to catch fish were a Mag Ned Rig – this time with a weedless jig and a stick bait. Charlie used a Hollow body swimbait on a lead head jig swimming it over the bottom and over lake structures in 10-14ft of water.

I’ve NEVER been to this clear water lake ever!!! Google Maps found it! So the challenge is to find fish now break down every part of the lake and go through the process I use when I’m fishing a new body of water for the very first time!!! For me it all starts with technology like using Google Maps or Google Earth to find lakes near me and analyze how clear the water is, what the layout of the lake is, does it have a boat ramp? Then we use technology like our C Map and Lowrance sonar to scan and understand the bottom if it’s slime or sand and look for bass. We explore the whole process of finding a lake as well as figuring out and and catching bass in a variety of scenarios!!

There are so many options when fishing a Ned Rig but I never thought I would put anything but a finesse style plastic worm on it. Today the lake offered extremely windy conditions which caused what is normally clear water to become slightly dirty and stir up. We used the wind to find bass set up on a ledge facing in to current and then adapted our Ned Rig to fish finesse but also displace water with a tailed fishing lure to attract fish with all the turbulance the wind was creating. We ended up doing a mod with a Gambler Burner Worm and then a Burner Craw. The key being the kicking tails on the baits and creating more action to call the fish in versus using a more traditional stick bait or Z Man TRD.
Here are the fishing rods, fishing line, and fishing lures we used:
