Crazy square bill and jig fishing on a private Florida lake in the scorching summer sun! Charlie and I whack over 20lbs of Florida strain largemouth fishing mid depths on a sunny calm day out on the lake. Charlie told me there were giants in here and he was right! We only fished for 4 hours and caught some big fish even a 5lbs bass on while the drone was flying! It’s always fun hanging out with friends and hunting for big bass and that’s what happened today. We even found a sunken canoe with treasure bass on it! It’s always an adventure going out on Florida lakes with the potential for big bags – the week before Charlie caught 2 30lbs limits in one day! That’s insane, flat out!

Donny Bass and I finished 2nd in the Roland Marin Marine Series Tournament on Lake Okeechobee doing what we love to do – punching heavy cover for big fish! Full day video and weigh in, all the deets and all the fish using big tungsten weights to target big bass on the bass capitol of the world Lake Okeechobee.

One of the best tournaments in Florida paying over $5k for the win. We managed 2nd place thanks to some awesome punching and flipping fish staked up in the mats. Go to baits was a Gambler Crawdaddy and Why Not (links below), heavy braided line, and heavy action fishing rods.

Took my best friend fishing and we caught a bunch of peacock bass and some snook with swimbaits targeting bedding areas just before the full moon. What people don’t know is peacock bass behave a lot like blue gill or bream because that’s their closest relation. We managed to fish for bass at just the right time.

Weather was hot balmy summer conditions, no wind no rain and temperatures in the 90’s. The whole key was these fish were spawning and locked on beds and we could sight fish for them which made it amazingly fun!

Spent time fishing with Lake Okeechobee Hammer Matt Wieteha teaching him a bit about what I’ve learned on fishing for bass off the bank. A hot, flat summer day in Central Florida where the bite was tough but panned out into a 20+lbs limit of bass and a pretty stellar day hanging out with good people.

Techniques used were crankbaits, Neko Rigs, Texas Rigged plastics, and drop shot. Big fish tended to come on the wacky rig setup and bigger crankbaits.

This is the best way to get great audio from your action camera and the best shot when fishing in POV or first person perspective situations like fishing. This rig is comfortable, adaptable, portable and light weight allowing you to shoot for extended periods of time without changing batteries.

I film video for when fishing for bass every time I’m on the water and it took some time to figure out a camera rig that offered the shot and audio I was looking for. This is what I came up with, hope its something that can work for you when fishing from the bank, from the boat, or even when shooting general videos highlighting your fishing exploits.

Fishing for bass with hair jigs is awesome. This is not me generalizing, this is not a conventional video. This is my experience on the water using hair jigs to target offshore bass on Florida lakes.

I’ve caught a lot of fish over 7lbs using hair jigs. I only need 2 sizes, 5/8 and 3/4. I’m usually targeting largemouth bass in 13-30ft of water and those weights, even with wind and current, tend to cover all the fishing bases. Color wise, it’s simple – white. I prefer Gambler’s JTK Hair Jig which comes in a Shad color that basically incorporates white with a touch of olive green which is perfect for mimicking shad and other bait fish. If there’s one huge key to the fishing technique that I’ve found in the past 2 years it’s that a hair jig is the perfect hard bait fishing tackle for targeting suspended fish. Fish anywhere from 2 feet to 12 feet off the bottom. It takes some practice to dial in the retrieve and keep the bait in the strike zone but when things come together you’ll know you’ve figured it out!
