I am fishing a major tournament lake for the next 3 days and it’s going to be all about making clutch calls to figure out what lures and what fishing patterns are happening on Lake Toho and Kissimmee.
Want the fishing lures that caught bass or a MonsterBass hoodie sunshirt?
Is this cheating or fishing? Many anglers go back and forth when it comes to catching bass out deep. In this video I show you how to use your electronics to find and catch fish out deep on brushpiles. We also go through fishing rod and reels setups as well as what lures catch bass when fishing deep water structure (crankbaits, hair jigs, jigs, drop shot, ned rig, swimbait, etc).
Want the fishing rods, fishing lures, and soft plastic baits we talked about?
In this fishing video I test a Ned Rig technique where no pro would fish it to catch bass on Lake Kissimmee prior to the Major League Fishing Toyota Series event. We learn what some of the winning baits, lures, and fishing techniques will be for the event. Lake Toho, Kissimmee, and whole chain hold some giant bass and allow anglers to use a wide range of fishing techniques toe catch bass. 1 of the coolest way we tried in this video is taking a Ned Rig and using it in heavy cover where no pro would throw it.

Want the Ned Rig Jig, fishing rods, and other lures from the video? Find them at Tackle Warehouse:
Late spring and summer fishing is here and that means swimbaits, crankbaits, jigs and tons of other fishing lures and fishing techniques to catch post spawn bass moving into summer patterns. I got a bunch of baits from Tackle Warehouse to get my fishing rods rigged up for this lure transition and I go though each lure and how to fish it out on the lake.
Frog fishing is some of the most fun you can have fishing for bass. That topwater pattern is insane! Frog fishing is a technique of patience though and placing your fishing lure where the bass live. Fishing frogs for bass requires a focus on cadence and there’s really 2 things that no tells you enough before you get out to the lake – don’t set the hook until you feel the fish, and don’t think about your cast with your fishing rod. Often times anglers set the hook early and tournament anglers will tell you that’s a big oops when it come to hollow body frogs. Also skipping the frog under bushes, under docks, and even casting it around heavy cover you need to not think to much otherwise you end up overthinking your cast. Whether you’re bank fishing, pond fishing or tournament fishing get out a frog – the warmer water temperatures and vegetation growth means fish are shallow and relating to cover – a perfect time to cast a frog!
A Ned Rig jig and a soft plastic is a perfect technique to catch spring bass moving up to spawn. The versatility of the lure really makes it shine and it’s finesse features allow it to catch fish in nearly any conditions – clear water, deep water fishing, skipping docks…it’s one of the most adapatable spring fishing techniques that works for any angler. There’s a little trick I figured out that I don’t even think the pros are doing on Lake Guntersville where you flip a ned rig on light action fishing rod like a spinning rod to holes in the grass – you need clear water but basically you’re triggering spawning and staging bass using those sandy areas as pathways. It catches fish and any angler can do it – it’s easy!
Why did one of the coolest pro anglers on tour – JT Kenney – quit pro fishing? JT and I hung out to shoot some video and talk about fishing and he revealed not only why he quit pro fishing but also the best secret lake for bass fishing in Florida right now!!!! Although he’s out of pro fishing from the tour level tournament standpoint he’s going to be announcing the new Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour!! Should be hilarious and insightful at the same time – not to mention quitting fishing tournaments means he’s going shoot a bunch of tips and techniques videos on his YouTube Channel JT Kenney Fishing!!!
Want to grab the spinnerbaits, punching gear, and topwater JT mentioned – grab them here:
We fished a HUGE Lake Okeechobee bass fishing tournament and we had a one in a million clutch finish! The waves were rolling the water was crazy and at the end of the day we won a 2nd place finish against some of the best anglers on the lake. The Roland Martin Marine Series is the biggest fishing tournament on the lake and a first place finish in that derby is huge. The last few events we’ve struggled and our tournament finishes have not been what we were hoping for – but that’s why I love this lake. It’s so dynamic the bass fishing can absolutely go off in a matter of minutes!
We had one of the craziest and luckiest final hours of tournament fishing I think I’ll ever experience – it just went off! We ended up weighing over 26lbs of bass and winning big fish with an 8+lbs monster bass! Tournament fishing is always a challenge but when it comes together it’s insane – not to mention it came together doing something we love, punching for bass in heavy cover!
Want the gear, fishing rods, and fishing lures in the video?
It’s the final fishing tournament with the old bass boat before we move all the gear and graphs to the new Triton fishing rig! Fished a super clear lake with my good buddy Charlie who is a stick out there! Different format tournament than your standard fishing derby – got to sleep in and rig rods in the morning . Had time to shoot some video about the rigs we’re using out there too and what catches fish in super clear water situations during the transition between spawn to post spawn. But all in all it’s the final voyage with the old fishing boat. She will be missed but change is good! Can’t wait to get the new girl out there and break her in with some giant bass!
