There are few techniques for bass fishing in summer that I love as much as this one. The NEKO RIG has caught me so man fish in the hot summer months it’s INSANE. It’s such a simple technique and basically allows you to deliver a wacky rigged fishing lure at depths bass normally don’t see such a rig. The other reason I love this technique is it catches small fish up to mondo huge bass! It’s perfect for clear to moderately stained water and in most situations should be fished where you find open hard bottom. Not a lure you want to throw into heavy cover but more geared for targeting pods or schools of fish setup on offshore structure. We break down the 3 soft plastic baits I use, the terminal tackle, how to set up the Neko Rig, and what types of fishing rods work best to fish the Neko Rig.

Who doesn’t LIKE to fish for bass with topwater LURES? During the shad spawn there’s a few fishing lures that you need to have to catch bass. The crazy part is some of them are not even topwater baits but when you fish they focus on the surface of the water column! The shad spawn is when forage like shad spawn on grass or hard cover -just like bass in a way. It leads to a fish feeding frenzy during low light periods of the day. Thus you don’t get all day to target them and usually it’s just a small window in the morning when you get to the lake. On Lake Okeechobee the weird part is this spawn lasts all summer where as on most bodies of water it only occurs when the water is under 80 degrees.

The fishing road trip is wrapped up and now it’s time to break down the patterns, baits, as well as the rod and reel arsenal we used to catch smallmouth bass up in Michigan! The pattern highlights really focused on 2 different baits, a jerkbait and a Ned Rig. I caught my PB smallie on the jerkbait right off the bait but when fishing Lake Huron got super close to beating it fishing the Ned Rig. These are a different class of smallmouth bass and triggering bigger bites was key in making this an epic trip. The break down and recap on techniques and everything we did and figured out when it came to fishing these giant spring smallmouth bass is layed out in the video. Hope it helps someone making the trip to the lake searching for the right rods, reels, and tackle for capturing giant smallmouth bass.

I fish for bass in Florida and shoot video of my time out on the lake whenever I go out. I’ve captured tons of giant fish with my GoPro and post my edits every week on YouTube. I go fishing on many lakes like Lake Okeechobee, Rodman Reservoir, Lake Rousseau, Lake Kissimmee, Lake Toho and more. My goal is to capture my experience on video to help other anglers pursue fish on their home waters all over the country. I love punching mats, flipping, fishing offshore, and throwing big swimbaits but also enjoy more finesse fishing as well like drop shotting, jig fishing, Neko rigs…if bass bite it, I want to have it tied on to my rod and reel. My first ever Michigan smallmouth fishing ULTRA CLEAR natural lakes on my fishing road trip to the north!!! Big thanks to YouTuber Benjamin Nowak for making this happen – it was a grind but that’s what makes fishing for bass such a passionate and emotional sport! Keys for the day were fishing hard baits rip baits however my first ever ULTRA CLEAR lake bass was caught on a Ned Rig right at the end of the day. It’s finally spring in Michigan and these fish are a pre spawn and staging to spawn mode.

Stay tuned for some advanced Lipless Crankbait tips from YouTuber Bass Quest and then day 2 of the #SeekingBronze tour which will turn out INSANE!

We finally broke dirty 30 in the new boat!!! And it’s bizarre how bass eat this bait but we did it with the Mag Ned Rig. Part 2 of an epic post spawn day on the lake fishing for bass, we rolled up on a shell bar early afternoon , wind started to blow, and the fish began to bite. Probably had 32lbs including a MASSIVE 9lbs+ caught on the bizarre but giant slaying Mag Ned Rig. They just eat that bait! Also caught some studs on the Neko Rig which is perfect for sluggish fish looking for a big meal with finesse during the late spring post spawn time of year!

Real fishing at it’s finest crushing post spawn bass out fishing a local lake! When the pieces come together during the post spawn bass fishing can be epic! They did today not getting a lot of bites but getting the right fish to eat the crankbait and, as you’ll see in part 2, the mag ned rig. All culminating in a 30+lbs megabag. The post spawn usually crushes anglers but it’s one of those bizarre times of year that can group fish up who really need to eat following the spawning period. Focusing on the 2 ends of the spectrum – reaction strike type baits and super slow dragging lures seems to be key this time of year in coaxing big bass to commit. Make sure to tune in for part 2 coming next week when we break a dirty 30 in the new boat for the first time!!!!!

Fishing for bass I was thinking about bass lures and the Ned Rig. I had fun learning how to fish a Ned Rig and wanted to stick with the same finesse principles but go mag style like usual. What I came up with is a blend of a slightly heavier Ned Rig jig head paired up with a magnum ned style worm – super fat and a little bit longer. After this vid I put the rig and fishing technique to work and unlike most of my other fishing lure experiments it worked flawlessly and we caught a couple 6+ pound fish. Once again the best approach was to basically dead stick and/or shake the bait and target small areas. In my opinion it’s a spot fishing technique not so much for broad areas but a great way to coax bigger bass when you have them pinned down.

The bass that didn’t make the cut – the B Team from the single best day of fishing ever 49lbs 3oz. According to Phytobedo with all the fish caught we were looking at a near 100lbs day!!! Absolutely crazy!! If you haven’t watched the biggest bag cast to catch on YouTube check it out right here https://youtu.be/K3rVg2BsBOE No doubt this is the best day of fishing I’ll ever have and got to share it with fellow YouTuber Phytobedo. Bait of the day was no doubt a mondo deep diving crankbait however also got to catch a 6 pounder throwing a huge Bull Shad Swimbait as well. The didn’t want soft plastics, theses big Florida largemouths were all about hard fishing lures, fished fast.
