Some of the best fishing lures for catching bass are right in front of our faces but nobody seems to recognize them. This happens a lot when anglers don’t think to look at artificial lures designed for other species of fish like crappies and bluegill and even walleye. One of the best lures for fishing ultra clear lakes that have grass and rock is a fishing technique I learned from fellow YouTuber Benjamin Nowak -it’s basically throwing a marabou style hair jig and swimming it just like you fish a swimjig but more along the line of slow rolling it.

Whether you call them crawfish or crayfish bass love to to eat. Some of the best baits and fishing lures mimic these creatures and their darting action across rocks and sandy bottoms. On our road trip we fished Green Lake which is a renowned smallmouth fishery that also has some great laregmouth bass as well. One of the central baits that fish eat in this ultra clear lake is crawfish so along with trying to figure out a fishing pattern that works we play around with various fishing lures that imitate crawfish, what fishing rods, line etc to fish them on as well.

There is no doubt in my mind the Shimano Curado 200e is and was the best fishing reel ever made. These days I pair it with my heavy cover fishing rods for frog fishing, punching, flipping and anything that involves braided fishing line. These are basically antique fishing reels but they’ve held up to catching fish so awesomely well that I just can’t see myself replacing them. They do need a little TLC from time to time when I’m not on the water and I think a mouse got to my reel handle on my punching rod setup so I needed to replace it. I opted for a Hawg Tech handle over a standard Shimano replacement because my buddy makes them, they look pretty epic (matching my fishing rod), and they last longer than the one’s Shimano sells after market. We do a quick reel handle repair in this video and you can see how simple it is to swap out any standard reel handle with a new one as well as take a look at a giant fish catch using my technique specific cranking handle.

Our fishing road trip to Wisconsin has begun and it’s time to reveal one of the soft plastic worm rigs that no one talks about but used to catch me a ton of big bass. It’s a super simple diy rig or you can buy one pre rigged but in essence it’s a pre rigged straight tail plastic worm on a straight shank hook with a swivel. It’s best to use a 12-14lbs flourocarbon leader depending on how clear the water is as well as use braided fishing line behind it. When it comes to fishing rods throwing a medium action spinning rod about 7 foot seems to work best and really there’s no wrong way to work the fishing lure! Literally anyone can catch fish on this worm rig. One of the benefits as well is that it’s very easy to skip under docks or around cover and if you’re fishing really heavy vegetation you can always use a hook with a wire weed guard. A challenging but epic first day to the trip back to the old stomping grounds and the lakes and fisheries I grew up casting on. We’ll see if I learned anything while I was gone!!!

The late summer and fall flipping punching bite is here and I need a new punching rod for fishing heavy cover for bass. This was one of the most unbelievable days fishing I’ve ever had. WE seriously saved her life by catching her choking on a giant carp on Lake Kissimmee! I was out with FLW Pro Tyler Woolcott and he snagged a fish with a trap fishing lure and it turned out she was choking on a fish she tried to eat. We saved her life by pulling the carp out of her mouth…serioulsy! I’ve only seen this twice before in all my fishing and each time the fish was choking on bream. I’ve never seen a fish eat something so big and seriously be on it’s way to other world. It’s suck a cool thing too, this fish was giant – all of 8-9lbs and without us catching her the way we did she would have never survived. I have spent a lot of time on the lake but I still run into some crazy things out on the water and this one was epic. Any time you can see a fish that big and play a role in saving her life is a good day on the lake, I can’t wait to see what our next adventure will bring

I’ve NEVER been to this clear water lake ever!!! Google Maps found it! So the challenge is to find fish now break down every part of the lake and go through the process I use when I’m fishing a new body of water for the very first time!!! For me it all starts with technology like using Google Maps or Google Earth to find lakes near me and analyze how clear the water is, what the layout of the lake is, does it have a boat ramp? Then we use technology like our C Map and Lowrance sonar to scan and understand the bottom if it’s slime or sand and look for bass. We explore the whole process of finding a lake as well as figuring out and and catching bass in a variety of scenarios!!
