I decided to go on an adventure to punch for bass on a new lake I’ve never fished before! We went bass fishing on Garcia Lake right near the famous Stick Marsh. The focus for the day was punching heavy vegetation and matted cover to target fishing moving in to spawn. The water is very low in Florida in 2019 and I even managed to hit a small stump so be careful if you’re running around the lake fishing in Florida right now. It was a fun day and the key really was isolated vegetation, punching through, and pumping the bait until the bass committed to biting. We missed a lot of bites but fishing a new lake is always a cool experience and it leaves you wanting to come back for more!!!

There are a lot of fishing techniques you can use to catch fish behind other bass boats fishing a lake – and this one they hate me for!!!! In this video we catch some bass and get in depth into how to longline for bass using smaller crankbaits on light fishing line to trigger reaction strikes. I love this kind of fishing – but I’m sure I’ll get some hate for it being trolling. It’s a super efficient winter tactic in Florida for combatting googans and continuing to catch fish on highly pressured lakes.

I love to catch bass but am I willing to get my truck stuck in the middle of an orange grove to punch for fish???? YES!!! This is the sketchiest fishing adventure I’ve ever taken to a lake I’ve never seen but it had mats and big Florida bass in mats are irresistible! I try to shoot fun vids and when my friend said he knew about a lake that had a dirt boat ramp where you could get your truck stuck but their were mats everywhere I couldn’t turn it down. We went out and punched for spring bass and it was a grind – some of the toughest but most fun fishing I’ve done yet this year down in Florida! Of course I lost a giant and so did my friend but the best part was going on the adventure and finding a new fishing hole!!!

I love to fish for bass on any lake with a gigantic crankbait. There’s a variety of fishing lures out there that dive deep and draw an epic reaction from fish when it goes by – and these things are pretty large, many weigh over 1 ounce. This is one technique I love for tournament fishing on Lake Okeechobee. We just fished bass fishing tournament and we had a one in a million clutch finish! By the end of the day we won a 2nd place finish against some of the best anglers on the lake. The Roland Martin Marine Series is the biggest fishing tournament on the lake and a first place finish in that derby is huge. The last few events we’ve struggled and our tournament finishes have not been what we were hoping for – but that’s why I love this lake. It’s so dynamic the bass fishing can absolutely go off in a matter of minutes!

Skin cancer sucks and it’s a huge problem for anglers summer fishing. Here are some tips to protect your skin against damaging rays. We also discovered a crazy new species for my lake. A type of catfish I have never seen before in the waters around Florida. Super rare for the clear water lake I love to fish!!! We fished a HUGE Lake Okeechobee bass fishing tournament and we had a one in a million clutch finish! The waves were rolling the water was crazy and at the end of the day we won a 2nd place finish against some of the best anglers on the lake. The Roland Martin Marine Series is the biggest fishing tournament on the lake and a first place finish in that derby is huge. The last few events we’ve struggled and our tournament finishes have not been what we were hoping for – but that’s why I love this lake. It’s so dynamic the bass fishing can absolutely go off in a matter of minutes!

We had one of the craziest and luckiest final hours of tournament fishing I think I’ll ever experience – it just went off! We ended up weighing over 26lbs of bass and winning big fish with an 8+lbs monster bass! Tournament fishing is always a challenge but when it comes together it’s insane – not to mention it came together doing something we love, punching for bass in heavy cover!
