Fishing for bass targeting a PB in the Florida winter cold can be insanely epic when you have the fish honed in to a pattern! Took fellow YouTuber Benjamin Nowak to the lake for a few days while he was down from Michigan to target huge pre spawn largemouth bass. We had some trials and we had some travails and hands down this was our craziest day captured all on video! We lay out a few fishing tips and techniques for what to do when faced with a grind day of fishing and it all pays off in the end with Benjamin catching his personal best bass on a crankbait right after locating a school of giant fish on the sonar!

Winter fishing in Florida is probably the best time to fish for bass. Fish are eating for the spawn and also in a mode to feed up for the winter making fishing at it’s best. Best day of fishing for bass EVER – the most epic 5 fish limit I’ve ever caught in my entire life out fishing! Breaking 40lbs out on the lake is a milestone and I got it all on video! Fishing conditions were horrible which make them perfect for insane days like this. Frontal, rainy, cloudy weather set up these bass where I’ve never seen them before. We took water over the front of the boat but every minute was worth it to hit that 40lbs achievement! Fishing for bass with huge swimbaits is crazy fun in any day but when you catch a GIANT 10lbs 12oz fish it’s an epic day. There are some fishing tips and techniques you need to know when targeting trophy bass if you want to catch your PB and we break them down in this bass fishing video. The action of the the Bull Shad swimbait is insane and I’m not going to lie I was intimidated throwing such a big fishing lure but the results speak for the themselves.

This is the best time of year to be fishing for bass in Florida! Another insane day on the lake using crankbaits to draw reaction strikes from fish including a massive 9lbs trophy catch and another over 7lbs. Absolutely epic bites either fishing lures super slow or turning to high speed power fishing techniques like a 10XD grinding on the bottom.

Weather was key as yet again cloudy conditions and a front made fish more active with wind creating current throughout the lake.

When you’re fishing for bass flipping mats and punching heavy cover the results are usually epic! Not many bites during this fishing trip on Lake Kissimmee but we caught a trophy fish in heavy cover using one of my favorite fishing techniques. Punching mats is a great way to fish for bass this time of year throughout Florida with fish moving in to spawn throughout the winter and getting stuck due to cold fronts or even using heavy cover such as hydrilla and hyacinth as stopping points before heading to the bed. My standard setup is a 1.5oz tungsten weight, a straight shank hook, and a compact creature bait. Terminal tackle is 65lbs braided line, a high speed decent quality reel, and fishing rod usually longer than 7’6″. Below are all the specifics on the fishing gear and cameras used in the video.

Winter fishing for bass in the most epic cold front of the year means insane fish activity and even catching a personal best bass over 10lbs on a crank bait. I’m not saying it’s fun fishing on days like this but pre-frontal conditions, strong winds, usually rain, and overcast skies have been the ideal times to target trophy fish this year. The west wind, a normal signal of a front passing through in Florida, sets up perfect on some offshore structure I’ve found and that current supplied by the strong winds lines the fish bass up in an eating mood! For the most part the most successful fishing techniques all related to power fishing – and mainly grinding a crankbait on the bottom in 15-24ft of water. We did catch a few fish dragging a Wrecking Ball and Carolina Rig but fish seemed to want the bait moving fast and digging into the bottom.

Weather: winds WSW 15-25mph (we took water over the bow of the boat many times), overcast with occasional heavy rains – note temps were in the low 60’s-70’s, the next day saw lows in the upper 30’s – i.e. it was a massive cold front!

Went fishing for bass in Central Florida on a beautiful winter day and had an epic session on the water catching GIANT fish with my buddy Joey Berg of Dream Big Guided Tours.
